QCAT Bill timelines

Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal Legislation Timeline

October 2008 Panel’s stage two report recommending legislation to establish QCAT (“the QCAT Bill”) and amendments to over 160 Acts conferring jurisdiction on QCAT (“Jurisdiction Provisions Amendment Bill”).

November – January 2009

 

Drafting of Bills occur.

 

9 February 2009 to 27 February 2009


Three week consultation period on draft Bills (QCAT Bill and Jurisdiction Provisions Amendment Bill) with key stakeholders to determine whether any unintended consequences of draft provisions.

March 2009

 

Results of consultation analysed and drafting of Bills finalised.

 

April 2009

 

Anticipated introduction of the Bills into Parliament.

 


Note:  timing of passage of Bills and commencement to be determined by Cabinet, taking into account the need for commencement of operation of QCAT by December 2009, early appointment of President and Chief Executive Officer of QCAT, development of rules and appointment of members.
